Dr Eva’s Great Escape

This three-part documentary series follows Eva and her South African husband, Wyatt as they pack up and sell their luxurious Wicklow home and say goodbye to their friends and family. As they walk through the gates of an abandoned, run down Portuguese hotel they attempt to create their dream.

After a high-profile marriage split, Eva has high hopes for rebuilding their relationship and creating a new life, to refocus on what’s really important. But in reality, given that neither have any experience in the hotel industry are they in way over their heads?

And as they lurch from budget crisis to building crises, all complicated by their lack of Portuguese, we learn if all of this is a recipe for disaster or the best thing that’s ever happened to them.

We will be right there with them until crunch time, through the highs and lows, the fears, the stress the ROWS, the uncertainty and the excitement! A truly fly-on-the-wall, devastatingly honest account of the pressures of a life changing business venture, both professionally and personally.

Dr Eva’s Great Escape begins Sunday 19th January, 9.30pm on RTÉ One.

Getting in Shape

November 14th is World Diabetes Day

Today is World Diabetes Day!

Are you at risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes?

Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM) is still today unfortunately described as a Chronic progressive disease and this is how it is presented to people who are newly diagnosed meaning they are told now they have a disease chronic-forever and progressive -it will only get worse and they are told they will be on the tablets for ever and all they can do is to learn to manage the disease.
.
Type 2 Diabetes is chronic and progressive only if the person stays the way they are e.g. carry on visceral excess weight but if they lose the visceral fat their whole physiology changes and especially in the first 5 years of the diagnosis you can say that in most cases they are able to reverse it.
.

We need to raise awareness that type 2 diabetes is a serious condition caused by bad lifestyle. It is criminal and sad to see so many people in Ireland struggling with type 2 diabetes. After years working with type 2 diabetic patients I can assure you that it is caused by excess weight! If you eat a lot of unhealthy high carbohydrate food and gain excess visceral fat it is only a matter time before you get type 2 diabetes depending on your personal fat threshold.
.

I have been helping people with type 2 diabetes to improve their glucose control and in many cases to reverse their type 2 diabetes with the help of VLCKD. This diet approach due to its limited carbohydrate intake allows me to reduce and in many cases totally stop patient’s diabetic medications at the start of the diet while improving glucose control.
.

6.5% of Irish population suffer from type 2 diabetes. It is estimated that 800,000 Irish people are at risk of becoming type 2 diabetics in the coming years. The cost of treating this disease is over 150 million a year which is approximately 10% of the health budget.
.

A good way to estimate your visceral fat is to take a measurement of your waistline in cms, it should not be more than half your height. For example if I am 160 cm tall, my waist line should be 80cm. Every cm over represents 1kg/2.2 lbs

13 weeks until Christmas!!

Where would you love to see yourself with your weightloss journey by Christmas ?

                                                13 weeks to go 🎄🎁

Day 2 of The National Ploughing Championships

Measuring your waistline is the most important measurement. No more than half of your height, so if you are 160cm in height like myself your waistline should not be more than 80cm. If your waistline eg. is 86cm that means you have 6cm extra which is approximately 6kg ( or 1stone) you need to lose. Come and get your waistline measured by myself today at day 2 of  The National Ploughing Championships  at our Orsmond Clinics stand at the Wellness tent.
