Dr. Eva - Today Show Cork

I appeared on RTE Today Show in Cork yesterday with a patient of mine - Michael Maypother, who has reversed his type 2 diabetes. According to diabetes action ireland, around 40% of those with type 2 diabetes (there are an estimate of 200,000 diabetics) end up on insulin injections.

Michael was diagnosed 16 years ago with type 2 diabetes, was treated with medications initially. Insulin injections were added 8 years ago, where he injected himself several times a day to help keep his blood sugar levels normal. The goal is to keep sugars normal to avoid the horrendous side effects of type 2 diabetes like blindness, heart disease and amputation. Michael had a silent heart attack 8 years ago. His blood sugars were very high even on insulin when he came to see me in August. His blood sugars are now within the normal/acceptable range, off medications and insulin. He has lost 4 stone to date. He says he is not on a diet, but a "life change".

And just to note, if 20, 000 diabetics on insulin did what Michael did and took action, it would save the irish government 80 million euro!

It was amazing to be on the show with Michael - I was very proud, as I think he has done brilliantly. RTE were great hosts - it was a gorgeous Christmas atmosphere! Dr. Eva
