What is Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia is a complex chronic condition that presents itself with widespread musculoskeletal pain and fatigue combined with a variety of other symptoms. Contrary to arthritis, fibromyalgia does not cause pain or swelling in the joints or soft tissue around them. The name fibromyalgia refers to ‘fibro’ – meaning fibrous tissue such as tendons and ligaments, ‘my’ meaning muscles and ‘algia’ meaning pain. As the symptoms of fibromyalgia are hardly noticeable it has also been called ‘the invisible disability.’

Treatment

Generally the treatment of fibromyalgia focuses on minimizing the symptoms and improving health.  It is know that weight reduction relieves the symptoms if a person carries extra weight or is obese.
